Young people using Tremolo phone
In the 1980s and 1990s, imagery of young people using a telephone in a bedroom signalled affluence and fashion. This marketing photograph uses this imagery to publicise the Tremolo phone, introduced in 1988 as one of British Telecom’s InPhones. Electronically operated, the Tremolo had new features including a ‘secrecy button’ (which, if pressed, would break the electronic microphone link between callers), and ‘last number redial’.
