Children and Cellnet

This marketing photograph shows two children in Glasgow holding a cellphone as publicity for the extension of British Telecom’s mobile service, Cellnet, in Scotland in late 1985. The young child is holding an Opal phone, one of a number of mobile handsets produced by Motorola and marketed by British Telecom. The target market for cellphones in the 1980s was the business user, but images such as this show opportunities for even young children at this time to see and hold mobile phones.
